Khaberni - A crime that shook public opinion occurred in the Dakahlia governorate, northern Egypt, where a pharmacist took it upon herself to kill her only son by stabbing him with scissors after strangling him in revenge against her estranged husband.
During the investigations, the mother broke down crying and expressed regret over what happened, talking about a state of anger and agitation that she had gone through before committing the act, and linked what happened with her disputes with her ex-husband, while the investigative authorities continued to examine her statements, investigations, and forensic reports.
The medical examination revealed signs of strangulation around the neck area, in addition to a fatal stab in the upper back of the child that extended to the lung, as well as other injuries that led to his death.
According to the investigation papers, after the discovery of the crime and the mother's escape, the police were able to locate her and detain her, as she was walking in the street and repeating "unintelligible" phrases. Upon questioning, she talked about experiencing a severe psychological crisis and agitation.
A team from the prosecution moved to the crime scene, where they found the iron scissors believed to be used in the assault on the child. The accused explained the details of the crime during the scene examination and reenactment of the incident.
The details of the incident were revealed when the child’s grandfather went to his daughter's home to pick up his grandson, as it had been arranged for the father to meet his son according to the weekly visitation order. However, he was shocked to find the child dead in the bedroom, while his daughter was not in the apartment, prompting him to quickly inform the security authorities.
The investigations indicate that the child’s father had separated from the accused about a year ago, after recurrent family disputes, and that he later obtained a court judgment allowing him to see his son weekly.
According to the child's family narrative, the father was keen on maintaining his relationship with his only son, while the disputes between the two continued, coinciding with the incident of the child’s killing.
The grandmother said that her son, the father of the child, is a doctor, and that his marriage to the accused lasted about 9 years before ending in separation.
She added that her son had not remarried yet, hoping that things would return to normal and he could continue caring for his son. The family did not expect the disputes to end in this manner.
The grandmother, according to her story, denied that the family had noticed any clear symptoms of a psychological disorder on the accused before the incident, asserting that she had been living a normal life, going to her job, and interacting normally with those around her.
She called for the imposition of the maximum legal penalty if the accusations are proven, expressing her shock over the killing of her grandson, and said that her son was deeply affected by what happened, as the child was a source of happiness and support in his life.
The initial investigations indicate that the incident began at home while the child was preparing to meet his father. He was assaulted and attempted to be strangled, before the mother used an iron scissor to inflict fatal stabs before leaving the home.
